The Elan Mehler Quartet

A towering if as yet little-known talent, Elan has a compositional touch and style that has seen his work declared reminiscent of greats from Bill Evans to Claude Debussy. This is contemporary music recorded wholly live and in the best traditions of jazz and improvisation, the antithesis to the uber produced music around right now.

Scheme For Thought is a particularly special affair: intimate, elevated and beautiful. It's a rarity to savour, right from the opening strains of the lullaby-like Little Lost to the closing track, a version of Elvis Presley Blues, a classic from the First Lady of alt. country, Gillian Welch, taken to new territory by Elan and his Quartet.
